Where New Beginnings Meet Flavour
I’m Andrew Wood, Head Chef and co-founder of Hare & Copper Eatery in Tūrangi, which my wife and I opened in 2020. With more than 20 years in the hospitality industry, I’ve worked in a variety of kitchens – from casual neighbourhood spots to fine-dining restaurants – gaining a deep understanding of flavour, technique, and the importance of genuine service.
Our vision for Hare & Copper was to create a warm, welcoming space where the food reflects the Central Plateau’s rivers, mountains, and farmlands. I work closely with local farmers, fishers, and foragers, using seasonal produce, wild game, and sustainably caught fish to craft dishes that feel both comforting and memorable. My style blends classic culinary techniques with fresh, creative twists, always rooted in the stories of the ingredients.
When I’m not in the kitchen, you’ll often find me fishing the Tongariro River or exploring the bush – moments that inspire new ideas for the plate and keep me connected to the place we call home.
